Food is an important part of travelling, especially when it reflects the culture of the place you are in. For those more culinarily inclined, here is a glimpse of Bait al Luban (بيت اللبان or the House of Frankincense), among the best restaurants in Muscat for traditional Omani dishes. Located in old town on the waterfront, Bait al Luban readily caters to a steady throng of tourists, but is equally popular among locals because of the type and quality of food...which is saying a lot!
We have eaten there several times, and it has been one of our 'go-to' restaurant locations when we've entertained visitors. The restaurant's outside balcony seating offers fantastic views of the harbor (when it's not ridiculously hot, of course), and we would recommend any of the dishes on the menu. They have traditional Arabic style seating, too, if you want that type of experience. The restaurant experience is further enhanced by a complimentary serving of frankincense water at the beginning of the meal (opinions differ whether this water is actually good or not...ask Jennifer) and, of course, the traditional Arabic coffee and dates at the end. As an added bonus, the staff also offers to cleanse your hands with rose water, when leaving the restaurant.
